Max-Forge Advisors · About

The businesses that will define Africa's next chapter are not multinationals.

They are the SMEs crossing borders, making consequential decisions every day, and building from local strongholds into continental players. Max-Forge was built to give them the strategic and intelligence infrastructure to do it well.

Why We Exist

The gap we were built to close.

"If Africa is to compete globally as a continent, its SMEs need the same quality of strategic access as the largest players."

SMEs account for the majority of employment and a substantial share of GDP across African economies. They are the texture of African commerce — the cross-border traders, the regional distributors, the manufacturers pushing into new markets, the brands building from local strongholds into continental players.

Too often, the conversation about private sector growth in Africa fixates on multinationals and large corporates. The SME — which is, in most African markets, the dominant form of enterprise and the primary engine of employment — is treated as an afterthought. Its contributions to regional economies, to family livelihoods, and to the long-term competitiveness of the continent are systematically underestimated.

Yet the strategy and intelligence infrastructure that large corporates take for granted — institutional-grade market research, structured market entry frameworks, senior advisory relationships — has historically been inaccessible to them. Not because the capability doesn't exist, but because the infrastructure wasn't built for them.

Max-Forge was founded to close that gap. The conviction is simple: African SMEs should not have to make their most consequential decisions without the same quality of intelligence and strategic support that their larger counterparts rely on as standard.

How We Work

Our methodology.

Every Max-Forge engagement is built on the same three inputs. They are not optional — each one is non-negotiable, because each one exists to close a gap that the others cannot fill alone.

I

Desk Research & Analysis

We begin with the evidence. Macroeconomic data, trade statistics, regulatory frameworks, sector reports, competitive landscapes. Filtered for signal rather than noise, and translated from institutional language into the practical implications your business actually needs to act on.

II

Practitioner Knowledge

Our work is grounded in operational experience across African markets — trade facilitation, customs and compliance, e-commerce, supply chain design, and cross-border logistics across six regional markets spanning Europe, the Middle East, and all major African sub-regions. We've been in the engine room. That changes what we look for, and what we find.

III

Fieldwork & Local Expertise

Where the question demands it, we go there. Engagements involve travel, in-market meetings, and direct engagement with the business environment. We work with in-market experts embedded in the specific corridors and sub-regions your business operates in — practitioners who understand what the data doesn't always show.

Our Philosophy

Written for operators.
Not outsiders.

Most analysis of African markets is produced for investors, development organisations, and multinational risk teams. It describes Africa from the outside. It answers questions about African markets.

Max-Forge answers questions for the people operating inside them.

The Environment of Business

Understanding the environment of business — the regulatory texture, the infrastructure realities, the informal dynamics, the relationships that actually move things — is not an add-on. It defines whether a market entry succeeds or stalls. Our intelligence is built to reflect that, not to sanitise it.

Analysis That Gets Used

Every brief we publish, every engagement we run, starts from the vantage point of the decision-maker on the ground — the founder weighing a market entry, the MD managing FX exposure, the family business navigating customs complexity for the first time. The test is not whether it reads well. The test is whether it gets used.

Network, Not Just Research

Our value is not only in what we know — it is in who we know and where they are. A network of senior practitioners, sector specialists, and in-market experts across Africa's major corridors means that the intelligence we deliver is grounded in what is actually happening on the ground, not just what the data describes.

The Team

Built for the work, not for the profile.

A compiled team of senior practitioners, sector specialists, and in-market experts. No single generalist-consultant profile. Every engagement draws on the specific expertise the situation requires.

Max-Forge brings together a deliberate combination of skills: operational experience in trade facilitation, customs and compliance, e-commerce, supply chain design, and market entry strategy — drawn from years of working at the coalface of African cross-border commerce across six regional markets.

That practitioner layer is backed by a network of in-market experts embedded across Africa's sub-regions. These are not satellite-view analysts. They are people who operate in the markets we advise on — who understand the specifics of doing business in Lagos, Nairobi, Accra, Luanda, or Johannesburg in a way that no desk-based research can fully replicate.

We don't name individuals on this page. The work we produce speaks more clearly than any biography. What we can say with confidence is that the people behind every Max-Forge engagement have done this work operationally — not just read about it, and not just advised on it from a distance.

Our Reach

Pan-African.
On the ground.

Our network and operational experience spans Africa's major corridors and sub-regions — built through years of direct engagement across markets, not assembled at a desk.

Cross-border trade is foundational to everything we do. The corridors through which goods, capital, and services move across Africa — and into Europe and the Middle East — are where our clients operate, and where our expertise is deepest.
